trunnions, require help !

I am currently renovating my spitfire IV, and have come up with one of the first of many problems. After removing the front suspension ect, I found that one trunnion could not be removed from the lower wishbone, used a hammer-no use. tried pulling the bolt out using a ring spanner, no good, the bolt that holds the trunnion, distance piece, seals, bearings and watershield, did not come out,- yes the nut was off. This is strange, as the bolt which holds it all together turns in the trunnion housing, before I do any great damage to the present trunnion or the lower wishbone with a flex or a sledge hammer. Could someone please give me a tip. I would be very gratfull. thankyou :?:   [/b]

I speak and read German, but it would have taken me all night to write this paragraph.

Cheers and bye bye

Hi Les,
as you have to renew the trunnion, seals, bolt, ... in any case, take a grinder and cut it through. Pls be careful not to damage the lower wishbone and check wether the holes for the bolt that holds the trunnion is exactly round and not worn.
cheers
Martin

Halo Les i Understand your problem, but i speak not good english.
I make it so: Bevor, i inject everithing with" Rostlöser", Now i solve the Nylocnut an little bit, with a ring spanner move i the screw back and forth and strike at the same time with a hammer on nut.

There is enough space between the 2 washers (Watershield) for a Hacksaw. There will be no damage to the trunnion or the wishbone.
The bolt, distance piece, seals, bearings and watershield have to be renewed anyway!! God luck

Hello Les,

as the other fellows here mentioned: take an angle grinder or a hacksaw to cut trough the bolt.
In your case, water has crept through the seals and found its way into the bush. This caused the bolt to rust solid.
So when assembling the whole thing, use plenty of good quality grease!

cheers
